A great number of today’s indoor pools and pool dehumidifiers were built and installed 10-20 years ago.

Since then, our requirements for comfort temperature in air and pool water have increased significantly despite the energy crisis – specifically when talking about indoor pools and wellness environments.

A pool dehumidifier is dimensioned for a given ambient temperature and pool water temperature, and if these change, so will also the evaporation from the pool.

Too low ambient temperature results in too high evaporation from the water surface - and also the opposite situation, if the ambient temperature level has increased, this will also result in a higher evaporation.

In the short run this is not the primary problem from inadequate dehumidification. Comfort level in the pool surroundings suffers at first. Breathing becomes difficult and the ambient temperature feels uncomfortably warm.

In the longer perspective the effects of inadequate dehumidification will cause buildings and materials to be destroyed. Pool users with allergies will be even more affected because due to the growth of rot and fungi.

Too much moisture in the air triggers condensation which occurs when the moisture condenses and becomes water. E.g. at 28 C° room temperature and a relative humidity of 60% the wall temperatures must everywhere be higher than 20 C°, otherwise the moisture will precipitate as water on the wall.

Pool rooms are often extensions of homes and such not always with sufficient insulation. This can result in thermal bridges, which also may cause the water to precipitate locally.

So the lesson is that the temperature in the pool room is very important. Do not save on heating in the pool room it will cause problems.

And do also consider checking the dehumidifier – will it still be able to do the job?
